Description

The Rotunda of St. Longin is one of Prague's few surviving Romanesque rotundas. It was built in the early 12th century and originally was dedicated to St. Stephen. It served as a parish church for the village of Rybníček, which had existed in this area since the tenth century.

After the establishment of the New Town of Prague in the 14th century and the absorption into the city of the former village of Rybníček, a new, bigger church, also dedicated to St. Stephen was built near the Rotunda. The Rotunda was then re-dedicated to St. Longin. In the 17th century the building was given a more Baroque treatment, and in 1783 Emperor Joseph II cancelled all religious services in the Rotunda.

Today, the chapel is a Greek-Catholic Church.
