Fine dining for hard times - A historic culinary landmark reopens with cheap, refined treats
The Prague Post, Feb. 19, 2009
On recent visits, most of the offerings in the cold-salad display were swimming in mayonnaise, but a bocconcini and cherry tomato salad tasted light and bright. The surprisingly sweet tomatoes and mild cheese were boosted by fresh basil and liberally doused with olive oil and vinegar. A potato salad met the picnic standard, filled with bits of hard-boiled egg, pickles and fresh chives, and dressed with a creamy mustard.
Under the glowing light of the display cases, the rows of chlebíčky were works of art, looking almost too special to eat. While the charm of these sandwiches is arguably more in their appearance than taste, you would be hard-pressed to find a finer treat at 19 Kč a pop.
